With Star Wars: The Force Awakens, George Lucas’s spacey saga is set to return to our screens for the first time since Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. When that film was released back in 2005, a call was put in to the newly-formed Red Bull Racing team to see if they’d be up for sporting Star Wars liveries on their cars at that year’s Monaco Grand Prix.

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner was only too happy to oblige, with the result that the Red Bull Racing RB1s of David Coulthard and Vitantonio Liuzzi wore cool Revenge of the Sith decals around the principality that weekend.

In 2005, Red Bull Racing and Star Wars teamed up for a unique collaboration at the Monaco Grand Prix to promote Revenge of the Sith. The RB1 cars were decked out in special Star Wars livery, blending Red Bull’s signature style with Star Wars iconography. Even the pit crew got involved, wearing Star Wars-inspired costumes, with some dressed as Stormtroopers during pit stops.

To add to the spectacle, Darth Vader himself made an appearance in the paddock alongside a squad of Stormtroopers. The crossover perfectly captured Red Bull’s creative approach to branding while celebrating the release of one of the most iconic franchises in cinema history. While the team’s performance on the track didn’t mirror the Force’s power, the collaboration is still remembered as one of F1’s most creative promotional stunts.
