In the late 1990s, Tochigi Prefectural Police received a legendary addition to their fleet: a donated Honda NSX (NA1). Stationed along critical expressways to intercept high-speed offenders and serve as a public relations icon, the police NSX quickly gained mythical status among car enthusiasts worldwide.
With its all-aluminum monocoque chassis, high-revving 3.0-liter V6 engine with VTEC technology, and chassis development tuned by Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna, this was not your standard patrol cruiser. Painted in traditional Japanese dual-tone black and white with official police insignia and roof-mounted emergency beacons, the NSX patrol car remains an unforgettable symbol of Japanese automotive culture.
